Central Cee ignited a discussion online after claiming he played a major role in making Nike Tech fleece jackets popular. On Wednesday (Jan.29), the British rapper visited Web Culture for a brief interview. When questioned about his distinctive style — which typically features Nike Tech fleece jackets and pants — he suggested he “put a lot of people on.”

“Me, I’m humble innit but at the same time, I like to think that man put a lot of men onto the Nike Tech ting. You see da influence even in America and dat now, people be rocking their techs like they’re us,” Central Cee explained.

The London-born artist added: “It’s perfect timing as well really….you can’t rush it…” As the interview clip wraps up, several artists, including Drake and NLE Choppa, are seen donning the sought-after Nike Tech fleece sets, seemingly reinforcing Cee’s claim about his impact. Nevertheless, many individuals on social media appeared to disagree.

“His entire lifestyle is based on black American culture,” one person wrote on x

Numerous respondents under the interview clip criticized the rapper (who is of English, Guyanese, and Chinese descent) for allegedly appropriating Black culture. “His entire lifestyle is based on black American culture but he thinks we got dressing tips from HIM?! Lmao!” one person commented on X. “Buddy wasn’t even old enough to make any money of his own when we started wearing Nike tech.”

In a similar vein, another user remarked, “Central Cee saying he influenced Americans to wear Nike Techs is possibly one of the most delusional things I’ve ever heard.” However, a minority defended Central Cee.

“YES Central Cee individually didn’t put AMERICANS on Nike Tech Fleeces but the UK in general has been on that particular aesthetic and mold before NY/America,” wrote another X user. “This is how marketing works—they made what was available in London also available in NY and across the country.”
