Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler are back with an exciting new film that delves into the realms of horror thriller.

On Tuesday, January 28, Warner Bros. unveiled the latest trailer for Sinners, featuring Jordan in the unique role of twins. The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Miller, Jayme Lawson, and Jack O’Connell.

The storyline reveals, β€œIn an attempt to escape their troubled pasts, twin brothers return to their hometown for a fresh start, only to encounter a more formidable evil waiting to greet them.”

This marks Coogler’s first film since the immense success of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which hit theaters in 2022. It also represents yet another collaboration between Coogler and Jordan, who have previously teamed up for Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the original Black Panther.

During a virtual press event on Monday, January 27, Coogler shared that Sinners was β€œpartially influenced by his family’s background in Mississippi.”

β€œThe seed of the idea began with my relationship with my uncle,” Coogler recounted. β€œHe would constantly listen to blues music and only spoke about Mississippi while immersed in those tunes. His influence on my life was significant, and this film allowed me to explore my own ancestry. It has been incredibly rewarding.”

Coogler remarked on the special relationship he shares with Jordan, comparing it to the dynamic between Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and Leonardo DiCaprio. He also expressed how

β€œAll my favorite filmmakers share these kinds of relationships, making it all the easier. Creating a movie is a tough endeavor, and when you have someone you really connect withβ€”someone who understands you and it doesn’t always feel like workβ€”that’s a blessing. Especially after what we went through with Chadwick’s passing, I believe we both have come to appreciate each other even more,” Coogler explained.

Sinners is set to hit theaters on April 18.
