DJ Akademiks has allegedly been suspended from Twitch due to an inappropriate exchange he had with a 15-year-old streamer.
The polarizing podcast host’s Twitch account was deactivated today, January 28, with a notification on his page stating: “This channel is currently unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s community guidelines or terms of service.”
Speculation suggests that Twitch removed Akademiks after he had a call-in with Adin Ross during a live stream. Notably, Twitch had issued a permanent ban on Ross in 2023.
The controversy ignited when Akademiks engaged in a dialogue with a 15-year-old named NourGXD during a Fortnite broadcast, where he made several inappropriate comments.
“Yo, if [PlaqueBoy] Max said he wanted to try f*cking a dude, will you let him f*ck you?” he posed to the teen. When Nour appeared uneasy, responding “no,” Akademiks pushed the matter further, asking, “Why not?” He then discussed being “inside” the boy and inquired if he would “smash” an older sister of a fellow streamer. Nour eventually labeled Ak’s comments as “grooming,” asserting, “I’m 15. She’s over 18.”
Meek Mill expressed his concerns via X (formerly Twitter), urging parents to monitor their teenagers concerning this streamer.
“If you’re a parent, go check your kids’ phones and block this guy. He’s grooming children with a huge platform that ‘kids’ love… he also tries to undermine Black families and Black success every day, ‘VILLAIN IN THE VILLAGE,’” Meek tweeted.
“At this point, he’s an extremist! This is the person disseminating false information about Black culture. This ‘diabolical work’ makes sense; it seems like he wants us all to look gay and undermine successful Black men every day! This better be AI!!!” his message continued.
With the criticism intensifying, Akademiks issued an apology, labeling his statements as “regrettable.”
“I am wrong. I will do better. This is a learning experience for me,” he stated.
However, he subsequently attempted to defend his actions and comments directed at NourGXD.
“Bro, it’s a dude. If it was a woman, it would be a whole different thing […] That’s like the little bro. I used to tell my cousin, even when he was underage, like, ‘Yo, n-gga. You don’t got a girl?’”
Ak then took a jab at his detractors, saying: “I’m still the biggest, pause. You can’t cancel what you didn’t create.”
