Max Bβs Prison Call Raises Questions About Timing and Future Aspirations
The timing of the phone call remains uncertain. Max B shared it on Monday, January 27, via Instagram Stories. Notably, Thug does not appear to be on a jail phone, indicating that the conversation likely took place after Halloween 2023, when the YSL rapper was released from his RICO case.
Almost a year prior to his release, Max made a call to Joe Buddenβs podcast to discuss his future plans. He expressed, βListen, Iβm not going to put myself in a box.β βI canβt wait to get in the studio. There are so many artists out there, too many to mention. Iβm eager to collaborate with the heavyweights, the top players.β Max emphasized, βI wonβt box myself in. Iβm available for all that, but theyβve got to be A-list. Iβm rolling with A-list. If itβs not A-list, Iβm not interested.β
The 46-year-old has been incarcerated on charges that allege he orchestrated a robbery with his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, and former girlfriend, Gina Conway, at a New Jersey Holiday Inn in September 2006. The attempt led to tragedy when one of the victims was fatally shot.
In 2016, the convictions were overturned, and Max later pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. This resulted in his 75-year sentence being reduced to just 20 years, followed by another reduction that brought it down to 12 years. Throughout his time in prison, Max was frequently visited by his longtime friend and collaborator, French Montana. The rapper also took these visits as opportunities to charm the female guards.
