Tina Knowles had some strong words for those in charge at Target after the retailer chose to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Knowles accused the brand of “bowing down” and “kissing the ring.” This post came after a statement from the company released on Friday (Jan. 24), where Target’s Chief Community Impact and Equity Officer, Kiera Fernandez, declared that the company is entering a “new chapter.”
“As a retailer that serves millions of consumers every day, we recognize the importance of adapting to the changing external landscape, now and in the future,” the statement elaborates. In the caption accompanying Knowles’ post, which featured a screenshot of an article detailing Target’s decision, she wrote, “So Yal bowed down and kissed the ring huh. Crossing you off my list! No more Target!”
Plies Calls Out Target After Abandoning DEI Initiatives
Tina Knowles wasn’t the only one taking a stand against the popular retail chain. Plies took to social media to express his views on Target’s choice to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. In his perspective, the rapper feels that the company has jumped onto the “crazy train.” Plies suggests that as the company is “evolving,” he too is changing and will not be spending any of his “big-faced hundreds” in their stores.
“You can’t get no more of this muthaf*ckin money from me,” he emphasizes. Nevertheless, Plies did acknowledge that prior to this news, he was a fan of the brand and often visited their store locations. However, he humorously critiques the company’s motto, “Expect More. Pay Less,” stating that he “expected more” and will now be paying them “less.”
