The Wayans Brothers’ upcoming installment of Scary Movie has just received an official release date, Deadline reports.
This announcement comes at a pivotal moment for fans of the franchise. This will mark the first time in almost twenty years that the Wayans brothers have created a new script for this iconic series. The eagerly awaited film is set to be released in theaters on June 12, 2026. The brothers have collaborated once more with Paramount and Miramax, despite previous challenges, as noted by Deadline.
The Wayans initially distanced themselves from the franchise after Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob (the founders of Miramax) rejected their contract proposals for the third film. Released in 2000, Scary Movie was co-written and starred brothers Marlon and Shawn, with their elder brother Keenon directing. It achieved significant success at the box office, grossing $42.5 million, which established it as the largest opening for a Black director and the highest-grossing R-rated horror film in history.
Marlon Wayans Discusses California Wildfires: ‘It’s A Rebirth’
A few weeks ago, Marlon Wayans took to Instagram to extend supportive messages to those affected by the California wildfires.
Wayans posted an image of the iconic Hollywood sign engulfed in flames, captioning it with, “Wow… this image got me thinking spiritually… not sure if it’s real. Don’t care.” He perceives the wildfire crisis as an opportunity for introspection, expressing that it transcends just “Hollywood burning” and symbolizes a “rebirth.” He elaborated, “This is rinsing our souls of all the devastation we have endured over the past five years. COVID, strikes, fires, etc. This is the moment we come together as an entertainment community.”
In Wayans’s perspective, it’s crucial to shift the focus toward “triumph” rather than dwelling on our shared tragedies. In another post, he expressed gratitude to first responders for their ” sacrifices.” He remains optimistic that Los Angeles will emerge from its current struggles “bigger and better.” He concluded, “I hope everyone’s loved ones are accounted for and safe. My prayers go out to us all affected, but especially to those who risk their lives to protect us. God is good. Let moments of extreme devastation unify us. [Heart emoji] May we all be blessed through our tragedies, and continue to strive for optimal triumph. Life itself.”
