Plies expressed his views regarding Target’s decision to discontinue its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in a recent post on social media. This commentary comes after a statement released by the company on Friday (Jan. 24), where Kiera Fernandez, Target’s Chief Community Impact and Equity Officer, mentioned that the company is embarking on a “new chapter.”
“As a retailer catering to millions of consumers daily, we recognize the significance of adapting to the changing external environment, both now and in the future,” the statement elaborates. Plies, the “Shawty” rapper, believes that the company has hopped on the “crazy train.” He suggests that as Target is “evolving,” he too is making changes and intends to stop spending his “big-faced hundreds” at their stores.
“You can’t expect to receive any more of this muthaf*ckin money from me,” he declares. However, Plies acknowledged that prior to this news, he was a supporter of the company and frequently visited its locations. He added a humorous take on the company’s slogan, “Expect More. Pay Less,” stating he “expected more” and plans to be paying the company “less.”
Plies has always been outspoken regarding his opinions. Recently, he commented on the brief TikTok ban, labeling it “bullsh*t.” In his view, the decision was not about “privacy,” but merely a tactic to make Trump seem like a hero. “Dear Tik Tok Y’all Ain’t Fooling Nobody With This Bullsh*t Azz Shutdown! Y’all Caught Up In The Circus Too, U Trolling Now Like Everybody Else,” he stated in the post. “Y’all Will Be Back Up After The Inauguration! Gotta Make It Look Heroic! Y’all Know What He Want Give Him A Check He’ll Let Y’all Slide!”
