NLE Choppa is tackling the ongoing speculations about his sexuality, looking to dispel the allegations of “gay baiting.”
The Memphis artist, who is featured on the latest cover of Playgirl, is once again under scrutiny, facing accusations of being gay or deliberately attracting gay attention following a daring photo shoot that showcases his backside. Similar allegations have arisen in the past, linked to his suggestive photos and the forthcoming release โSlut Me Out 2,โ where he raps, โIf I was a bad bitch, Iโd wanna fuck me too, hmm/ Iโd wanna suck me too, hmm/ Iโd wanna slut me too, hmm.โ In a recent video, he reiterated, just as before, that he is neither gay nor trying to provoke anyone.
NLE remarked, โI really donโt care, and I think thatโs the issue.โ โI think I donโt care so much that it creates a disconnect. Since I am so confident in my identity, narratives get constructed because I appear indifferent. So, I just wanted to clarify that narrative. Please do not label me a gay baiter because I am secure enough to flaunt the beauty that God has designed in my physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional self.โ
He added, โI am not a gay baiter just because I post a mirror selfie showcasing my own beauty. I am not baiting anyone by sharing a photo that highlights the blessings Iโve received from below the waist, which turned heads among women. I am not a gay baiter because I might show a little skin in my Playgirl shoot. Am I not allowed to show my own body without a label? It’s my own body! I am not a gay baiter for showing my body to a female photographer.โ He concluded emphatically: โI love gay people, but I would never seek to entice them for any specific reason. Thatโs not my intention.โ
NLE Choppa Advocates for LGBTQ+ Rights at Black Pride
In September, NLE Choppa shared his support for the LGBTQ+ community during Atlantaโs Black Pride Weekend. As he took the stage, he was ready for any backlash and delivered a thought-provoking message.
The rapper stated, โMany will question me, โYouโre a rapper, what are you doing at an event like this?โโ To which he confidently replied, โForget those haters.โ He elaborated, โWhy? Because every day we battle for acceptance. It doesnโt matter if itโs skin color, body type, appearance, or sexual orientation.โ โUltimately, I stand by one belief: Everyone deserves equal respect, regardless of how they drink water, eat food, or live their life, you feel me?โ
The Memphis star shared a highlight reel of the event on Instagram, captioning it: โAs A โRapperโ Weโve Been Conditioned To Move Away From Love, But As Iโve Evolved Into An โArtist,โ Iโve Learned To Cherish Anyone Who Appreciates Your Art!โ He added, โI Hope This Post Touches Someone and Encourages Opening Minds & Hearts! We All Deserve ACCEPTANCE, No Matter Our Experiences. God Is Love, And Love Fosters UNITY [fist raised emoji, Pride flag emoji].โ
He wrapped up with, โI Am A Heterosexual Male And If That Is Who You Are And You Are Aware, Then Whatโs The Problem? God Bless [prayer hands emoji].โ
