Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR are gearing up to release Some Sexy Songs 4 U this Friday, February 14, perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day.
The pair unveiled the 21-track album on Instagram Thursday (February 13), featuring a back cover description that reads “74 personal minutes by PartyNextDoor and Drake.” Included in the project is the much-hyped “Crying In Chanel,” along with previously unreleased songs such as “CN Tower,” “$pider-Man $uperman,” “Gimme a Hug,” “Celibacy,” and “When He’s Gone.” Another notable song, “Brian Steele,” pays homage to the attorney integral to Young Thug’s release from his notorious RICO case. Information regarding production credits and featured artists is still pending.
Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s Album: Legal Drama and Hometown Roots
Information regarding the album’s release, including the labels involved, remains uncertain, raising questions about its potential impact on Drake’s ongoing legal battle with Universal Music Group.
The rapper has filed a lawsuit against the company for defamation in connection with Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” Currently, Drake is under contract with UMG and Republic Records, while PARTYNEXTDOOR recently released PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 through OVO Sound and Santa Anna. Founded in 2012, Drake’s OVO Sound operates under Sony Music, joining industry leaders Universal and Warner. The tracklist was unveiled shortly after they shared the album cover, which features them donned in opulent minks amidst a frosty backdrop, directly referencing the biting cold of their Ontario origins.
In the background, Absolute World, the iconic, swirling residential towers in Mississauga, stands tall—it’s the home of PARTYNEXTDOOR and just a brief drive from Toronto, where Drake hails from. While on tour in Australia this week for his Anita Max Win Tour, Drake revealed more about what fans can expect from Some Sexy Songs 4 U. He informed the audience, “It got an album coming out on February 14th with my brother PARTYNEXTDOOR.” He added, “It’s called Some Sexy Songs 4 U, but there are also some upbeat tracks on there. And it’s got some personal feelings in it too.” He expressed hope, stating, “So hopefully, whoever you’re with on Valentine’s Day, you all can share that experience together.”
This album marks the first collaboration between Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, expanding on their successful history with tracks like “Over Here,” “Recognize,” “Loyal,” “With You,” and “Come and See Me.” It also signifies Drake’s return to a comprehensive project after his highly publicized conflict with Kendrick Lamar last year—a feud that many viewed as unfavorable for Drake.
