The official cause of death for DJ Unk, widely recognized for his memorable hit βWalk It Outβ, has been made public, as reported by TMZ.
Sherkita Long-Platt, Unkβs spouse, informed the media that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 24, after experiencing a heart attack. She emphasized that the family is aware of βvarious rumors circulating about his death β¦ and she wishes to clarify the facts.β She aimed to dispel any misconceptions that his death was linked to drug use.
In her official statement, Sherkita announced his passing via Facebook on Friday (January 24).Β
βPlease respect my family and me. I just lost my husband, and my children have lost their father. Our lives will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.β
Born on November 28, 1982, in Atlanta as Anthony Leonard Platt, he embarked on his music career in the late 1990s. He established Southern Style DJs with DJ Montay and DJ Jelly. Known for organizing parties throughout Georgia, the DJ collective eventually secured a record deal with Big Oomp Records in 2000.
In 2006, DJ Unk released Beatβn Down Yo Block! He gained significant national attention with his hit single, βWalk It Out,β which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His subsequent single, β2 Step,β also charted and received gold certification.
On Saturday (January 25), numerous fans gathered at a park in downtown Atlanta for a candlelight vigil honoring Platt. According to videos shared on Facebook, white and blue balloons were released into the sky as attendees expressed their love and gratitude for the pioneering rapper and DJ.
Some even sang along to βWalk It Outβ and β2 Step,β sharing heartfelt embraces.
