Sexyy Red had a unique chance to enter the WWE arena.
In a feature with Dazed, the rapper revealed that she was offered βa permanent role as a wrestler.β However, with her busy schedule, there wasn’t enough time for the required training, which led her to choose a cameo instead. She reflected on the similarities between her music journey and the realm of sports entertainment.
She expressed, βRapping and wrestling are pretty much alike.β βItβs not exactly acting, but it has its acting moments, right? Because when we get home and remove our jewels and gold, along with the outfits we wear, we have to return to reality with our families.β Sexyy made her WWE debut in May, stepping in as NXTβs host. There, she unveiled the newly minted NXT North American Womenβs Championship belt and performed βSexy Boyβ alongside Shawn Michaels. Later, she returned to steer NXT Battleground in Nevada. Β
Sexyy Discusses Vision, Fame, Challenges, and Encounters with Police
During the interview, she detailed her ambitions and shared that she owns an impressive collection of 600 pairs of True Religion jeans. She articulated, βI would provide all the hungry and impoverished people with free food.β βSo they donβt have to steal it anymore, as it’s too costly right now. Food should be free! No one should ever be without a home.β She continued, βThe folks at the bottom are my favorite kind of people, period. I admire those who wear True Religion jeans, even though theyβre [regarded as] too ghetto. I possess about 600 pairs! I stand for the people who are real and unpretentious.βΒ
She opened up about her difficulties with fame and the persistent racial profiling she experiences whenever she visits home. βLiving a normal life is challenging when youβre famous,β she remarked. βSometimes it gets under my skin. If you see me with my kids shopping for groceries, then back off! No photos!β
Sexyy also recounted her encounters with local police back home. βThe St. Louis police just shot another Black kid the other day. That shβtβs so unjust,β she emphasized. βWhenever I return home, there are usually two possible outcomes [when I get pulled over]: either they appreciate your music and want to share that their kids are fans, or they decide to give you a hard time now that youβre a celebrity! Sometimes they mess with me just for amusement. They enjoy reminding me of my environment. Itβs all about asserting their dominance [and authority].β
